What do Students Learn?
Understand, this isn't an afternoon absently messing around on Roblox or Minecraft. No, at Bitmask Games, students engage with just about every scholastic discipline. Sometimes, it's a lot of work. Sometimes it's frustrating. But ultimately, it's very rewarding when a student sees their hardwork resulting in their own creation coming to life!

Parents' Perspective
"Joe is an enthusiastic and energetic teacher. My boys didn't want to go to ANY summer camp and it is always a chore to get them involved in extracurricular activities. After one day, my sons were so excited to go back. Now we are waking up early on summer days to get to the studio before camp starts to work on details of their project. These are boys that do not usually share much about their days or experiences. My older son has ADHD and is impulsive and anxious. Joe has embraced his quirks and has made him feel safe and appreciated to show his strengths in this class. As an elementary school teacher, I look forward to sharing this studio with students' families. I am so grateful for this positive experience for my family." - Laura C

"Bitmask is a game changer. I have worked with Joe both in my capacity as the Coordinator for Afterschool Enrichment at Primrose Hill School, and also as the parent of a middle grade student who is passionate about computer science, coding, and gaming. At the Enrichment Program, in just a few short weeks, students are able to see their own progress with basic coding and design, and it is just enough exposure to excite them about creating their own complete video games. In the more extended, comprehensive classes at the Bitmask studio, my son has learned over the past year how to code, and has worked both independently and in teams to design, create, and edit complete games! Going to Bitmask is such a highlight in his week. Beyond the classes, Joe offers special gatherings at the studio where students of different ages can come together to share ideas and games. These opportunities have been so much fun for the kids, that I'm quite certain they'd be there daily if it were an option! Joe is an accessible, knowledgeable mentor, and the Bitmask students are creative, smart, and supportive to one another. They are not only building their own community, but also adding to ours as a whole." - Nicole M

"My son absolutely loves working with Joe and taking classes at Bitmask Games! Having access to a great teacher, like-minded students who share his passion, and the right resources to build games, code, and solve complex problems has given him the confidence to learn, fail, and try again. We love the studio and are so excited to continue learning, growing, and creating at Bitmask Games. Thanks, Joe!" - Laura L
A different way to teach game development...
While many game development programs are static, single curriculums, Bitmask Games functions much more akin to music lessons, where I am to meet students wherever they are in their journey and help elevate them to the next level.

Because of this, every class session is slightly different, and provides students the ability to continue to grow their skills and experience!

What is the experience like?
Over the summer, I teamed up with New England Institute of Technology and Skills for Rhode Island to work with high school seniors from around the state. This video is a quick look into their experience.

While high school students are featured here, students of any age (even you, parents!) are capable of making games and are certainly invited to come learn!
