What is a GAME JAM?

A game jam is an event where a large group of developers of all skill levels come together to create new games in an absurdly fast-paced production sprint! The global game jam is probably the most well known jam in the world, with over 1000 sites in over 120 countries participating, tens of thousands of young developers learning to collaborate, problem solve, and ultimately, creating an entire game based on a common theme.

I've been participating in game jams for well over a decade, and they are some of the most fun, exhausting, challenging, and rewarding events imaginable! To get a better understanding of what jams can look like, here is a video of a Sarasota Game Jam that I hosted with Ringling College of Art and Design.

Registration is free, but space is limited. Jammers are encouraged to bring their own equipment (laptops, etc), however there are computers on site for current students enrolled at Bitmask Games should they choose to use them.

Jammers are allowed to create games using any software they may have access to or knowledge about, or they may come and even develop tabletop games. Registrants do not need to be active students at Bitmask Games Studio in order to partipate.

For more information about the Global Game Jam, check out the Bitmask Games location on the GGJ website.
